Flavorful Kofta Kebab Recipe

These flavorful ground meat skewers are seasoned with aromatic spices and can be easily cooked in a pan or baked in the oven.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb (or a mix)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped or grated

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 egg (optional, helps bind the mixture)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for pan-frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Meat Mixture:

    • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, cilantro (if using), cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon (if using), cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper.

    • If using, add the egg to help bind the mixture.

    • Mix everything thoroughly with your hands until well combined.

  2. Shape the Kofta:

    • Divide the meat mixture into equal portions.

    • Shape each portion into small, elongated cylinders or ovals.

    • If using skewers, thread the kofta onto the skewers.

  3. Pan-Fry (Option 1):

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.

    • Place the kofta in the hot pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through.

    • Ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

  4. Bake (Option 2):

    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

    • Place the kofta on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.

    • Ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

  5. Serve:

    • Serve the kofta kebabs hot with pita bread, rice, salad, or your favorite dipping sauce .

  • For extra flavor, let the meat mixture rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before shaping.
